Vanishing
Alice has been severely depressed ever since her parents divorced. Now forced to live with her mother (who has a drinking problem) and her stepfather (who openly expresses his dislike of Alice), Alice` melancholy grows even worse. When Alice contracts bronchitis and is sent to the hospital, she finds that she`s happy for the first time in months. Deciding that life in the hospital is much better than life at home, Alice goes on a hunger strike to keep the hospital from releasing her. As Alice`s protest continues, she grows weaker and weaker and even begins having hallucinations.
