On Christmas Eve, Simon and his mother welcome a homeless woman into their small cardboard house and offer her warmth and kindness. Simon awakens the next morning to find the woman gone, but December, their paper angel, has come to life and is softly singing to him and his mother. Their lives improve and, by next Christmas, they are living in their very own apartment, still in possession of the picture of their personal Christmas angel.
