A fragrant gum resin obtained chiefly from tropical trees of
the genera {Amyris} and {Canarium}. {A. elemifera} yields
Mexican elemi; {C. commune}, the Manila elemi. It is used in
the manufacture of varnishes, also in ointments and plasters.
