stone yeller, i. e., a bird that yells from the rocks. See

The kestrel; -- called also {standgale}, {standgall},
{stanchel}, {stand hawk}, {stannel hawk}, {steingale},
{stonegall}. [Written also {staniel}, {stannyel}, and
{stanyel}.]
