- IVP is an x-ray study of the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra after a radiopaque (iodinated) dye is injected intravenously. The IVP dye is excreted by the kidney, thus enables one to identify the presence of malformations, infections, tumors, obstructions, and stones.
- An intravenous pyelogram is an imaging technique by displaying the contour of the urinary tract which is highlighted with radiopaque dyes (contrast) injected intravenously and secreted by the renal tubules of the kidneys. It provides information of the differential filtration rates of the kidneys, the kidney sizes, position, abnormal anatomies or growths, presence of stones in the kidney, and ureter.
