| Definition: | | Buttons One sad day the buttons to pop off a man`s pants and subsequently roll into the fireplace where they are burned to bits. Unable to keep up his trousers, the man turns to his wife for help; she tucks him into bed while she seeks the counsel of their three lovely daughters. The first daughter decides that she will dress in her best clothes and walk through town until she finds a rich man to marry her. Once she is the wife of a wealthy man she is sure she will be able to provide her father with all the buttons he could ever need. The second daughter decides to disguise herself as a boy and join the army--she`s seen the uniforms and they are just covered with shiny buttons; she`ll certainly be able to spare a few for her dear old dad. The third daughter comes up with a rather unusual plan: she`ll run through the nearby meadow, holding her apron aloft while she waits for buttons to fall from the sky. Which daughter will be the first to bring her father the buttons he so desperately needs? Watercolor illustrations accompany the text.
