Piet Mondrian
The art of Piet Mondrian has had an enormous influence, evident throughout 20th-century architecture and design, including graphics, typography, and fashion. Mondrian`s aim was a pure art, abstraction so total as to reveal the essence of things; and when he came to New York in 1940 he created several masterpieces in which even his familiar black lines were eliminated, so that small squares of primary color would sparkle against a white background. Forty of Mondrian`s finest paintings are reproduced in color in this volume, each accompanied by a commentary by the author.
