Navajo Horse Hair Wedding Vase (Native American) One of the most unique forms of pottery, horse hair pottery combines not only the skill of the artist but also the unpredictable forces of nature. Starting with a molded ceramic pot, vase, or animal shape, the artist penetrates the pot with carbon from burning horse hair. As the horse hair is consumed by the fire, it twists and turns, producing a unique pattern never to be duplicated again. The wedding vase is used at Navajo weddings by the bride and groom, who drink from either side of the vase during the ceremony. The elegant and unique vase has been crafted by Navajo artist Thomas Vail and each piece signed by the author. The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in color and sizing. Subtle shade variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements are approximate.
