Each of these three notebooks is made from sheets of handcrafted Lokta paper, bound in naturally beautiful hemp, and fastened with a coconut shell button. Lokta paper is made only from the bark of Himalayan trees. Historically, all Nepalese legal and legislative documents were printed on this lovely paper because it is so durable. This authentic tradition has caught on with international interest in environmentally sound, natural production. Dipak Tuladhar works with village women in rural Nepal to design contemporary products that tap into Nepal's rich craft inheritance. The tiny shop in front of his home is a hospitable gateway through which many artisans' work passes. If you're in Kathmandu, drop in for a cup of tea.
