Handpainted Yellow Butterfly Kite (Bali)
With bright and sunny colors, this vibrant butterfly is fun to fly, or to display in your home. Handcrafted and individually painted, each kite is a unique and functional work of art! The kite base is made from blalu wood, a fast-growing tree favoured by Balinese craftspeople for its light weight and affordable price: a sustainable local resource. The wood is cut into struts, then brightly colored nylon is stretched over the frame. Antennas and little legs wrapped in orange silk thread add charming detail. Kite string is not included. Bali's tourist boom created urban drift, with traditional artisans mass-producing trinkets, and farmers leaving their fields to hawk souvenirs. Mitra Bali counters this trend by facilitating rural production. Mitra Bali communicates with WorldStock on behalf of over 2000 artisans who work in their home villages.
