Rhythms
Emma is the product of her African-American mother`s seduction by a white man in 1920s Chicago, where she went to pursue a singing career. Disgraced, Emma`s mother struggles to raise her back in rural Mississippi, and when Emma grows up, she realizes the only way she can break out of the poverty and failure that haunt her is to leave town, go north, and pass for white. Then, years later, Emma`s own daughter needs urgently to find out the truth.
