In this debut `sleeper,` three generations of men tell their versions of their family`s story. At the center of the novel is Littlejohn McCain, a dirt farmer and one-time illiterate, a man who married late in life, an accidental killer in an unplanned fratricide who is forever trying to redeem his actions.
