Biology Dictionary

Definition: Small, artificially-created spheres whose walls are phospholipid bilayers. They are made by mixing dry phospholipids, such as egg yolk, in water. The lipid bilayer can fuse with the lipids in cell membranes, so liposomes hold much promise as agents for delivering drugs or other chemicals directly into cells.
