John Donne
Donne was the greatest of the English Metaphysical poets; his poetry is noted for its unique fusion of wit and seriousness as well as its metaphorical complexity. Donne`s poetry came at the beginning of the shift from classical models toward more personal poetry and, although all his works, from the early erotic love poetry to the later devotional poems, are intellectually demanding, they are written in an accessible colloquial voice.
