Pasadena
On a World War I battlefield, a man named Bruder is given a California ranch by a dying soldier, and when he goes to claim it he falls in love with Linda, who lives on the premises. Their romance, however, is blighted by a terrifying experience they share, and when, years later, they reunite, new problems have surfaced, including a young woman named Rosa and Willis, the legitimate heir to the property. After the events of the story, a real-estate broker comes across the ranch and its history, and has doubts about his scheme to turn it into a housing development.
