| Definition: | | Baraka Baraka. An ancient Sufi word that translates as a blessing, or as the breath or essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds. In 1994, Mark Magidson produced the movie Baraka, a poetic, non-verbal film shot in 24 countries. The film focused on the life affirming rhythms of various religious rituals, the rawness and beauty of nature, and compassion (or lack of it) of the human race. In addition to co-writing and co-editing the film, Magidson, while on location, took a series of photographs of the images and people that captivated him. This book is a selection of these photographs, taken during the almost one and half years it took to film. more details ... |
