Meaning of EX PARTE

Upon or from one side only; one-sided; partial; as, an ex
parte statement.

{Ex parte application}, one made without notice or
   opportunity to oppose.

{Ex parte council}, one that assembles at the request of only
   one of the parties in dispute.

{Ex parte} {hearing or evidence} (Law), that which is had or
   taken by one side or party in the absence of the other.
   Hearings before grand juries, and affidavits, are ex

Legal Dictionary
 Definition: On behalf of only one party, without notice to any other party. For example, a request for a search warrant is an ex parte proceeding, since the person subject to the search is not notified of the proceeding and is not present at the hearing.
