Frangois Bizot traveled to Cambodia in 1965 and was caught in the violence when the Khmer Rouge began rampaging. Taken prisoner by guerrillas who believed him to be a CIA agent, Bizot managed to escape but not without enduring the horrors of interrogation and torture. Despite his experiences, Bizot writes lyrically about the beauties of Cambodia`s landscape and the sweetness of its beleaguered people. A New York Times Notable Book for 2003.
