Heroes
Set in the 1960s during the Vietnam War, this is the story of a Japanese American boy named Donnie. When he and his friends play war, he is always forced to play the enemy because he looks like them, and Donnie resents that his friends do not believe that his father and uncle fought bravely for the U.S. during World War II. This story is about overcoming racial stereotypes, and is also a tribute to the little-known 442nd regiment, an all Japanese-American Army unit that fought in Europe during the Second World War.
