Breaking Out
This report on the effort of the Virginia Military Institute to assimilate women into its classes stresses process. Having accepted a courts ruling that it must change, the leaders of VMI instituted a slow, deliberate, but democratic sharing of ideas that would seek to retain both the sense of tradition and the essence of the institution while preparing for the smooth matriculation of the next class.
