Meaning of DNA

WordNet Dictionary
[n]  a nucleic acid found in the nucleus of a cell and consisting of a polymer formed from nucleotides and shaped like a double helix; associated with the transmission of genetic information; "DNA is the king of molecules"

DNA is a 3 letter word that starts with D.

 Synonyms: deoxyribonucleic acid, desoxyribonucleic acid
See Also: adenine, base pair, cDNA, coding DNA, complementary DNA, cytosine, exon, guanine, intron, jumping gene, junk DNA, nucleic acid, operon, recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid, recombinant DNA, sticky end, thymine, transposon

Dream Dictionary
Definition: Dreaming about DNA, suggests that you need to focus and carefully plot out everything in order to move ahead in life. Learn from the negativity that you have experienced. The dream may also represent the initials "D" and "A". Consider who or what in your life has these initials.
Biology Dictionary
Definition: The molecule that encodes genetic information. DNA is a double-stranded molecule held together by weak bonds between base pairs of nucleotides. The four nucleotides in DNA contain the bases: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T). In nature, base pairs form only between A and T and between G and C; thus the base sequence of each single strand can be deduced from that of its partner.
  1. An organic acid and polymer composed of four nitrogenous bases--adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine linked via intervening units of phosphate and the pentose sugar deoxyribose. DNA is the genetic material of most organisms and usually exists as a double-stranded molecule in which two antiparallel strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between adeninethymine and cytosine-guanine. (See b-DNA, cDNA, Complementary DNA, Complementary RNA, DNA polymorphism, DNA sequencing, Double-stranded complementary DNA, Duplex DNA, Z-DNA)
  2. Deoxyribonucleic acid. the material which carries the hereditary instructions (the "blueprint") which determine the formation of all living organisms. Genes, the organizers of inheritance, are composed of DNA.
